Jefferson Davis (1808-1889) was an American statesman and President of the Confederate States of America from 1861 to 1865. Robert McNutt McElroy (1872-1959) was a professor of history at Princeton University, and author of the 1937 biography Jefferson Davis: The Unreal and the Real.
